A Life in Service of Beauty
I was born in Trinidad, raised in Toronto, and rooted forever in Grenada — the island my parents carried with them everywhere they went, in their food, their stories, the particular smell of nutmeg they never quite stopped missing. I have spent my life at the intersection of healing and beauty, first as a psychotherapist and clinical social worker, then as a social entrepreneur, and now, finally, as a novelist.
For me, beauty is not decoration. It is a form of truth. The beauty of a story well told. The beauty of a garden tended with patience and love. The beauty of a person who walks through darkness and comes out the other side, changed but whole. The beauty of a grandchild's laughter, of a bougainvillea fence in the morning light, of a sentence that says exactly what it means to say.
I hold a Master of Social Work from Smith College and have spent more than thirty years empowering women and families through storytelling, business, and the radical proposition that self-care is not a luxury but a right. I am the founder of Soul Purpose Beauty and Lifestyle Company, co-founder of Warm Spirit, and co-author of Values Sell, published by Berrett-Koehler. I have spoken at the NBC Today Show, Essence Magazine's Women Who Are Shaping the World Leadership Summit, the Wharton School of Business, and Columbia University, among many others.

I live in Exeter, New Hampshire with my husband, Reverend Robert Thompson, our children Camilla and Isaiah, and eight grandchildren who are the daily proof that beauty is not something you find — it is something you grow.
I wrote my debut novel in memory of my mother, Veronica Abraham née Renwick — Teacher Veronica — who first told me this story one quiet afternoon at the end of her life. This website is her monument as much as mine.

Spanning Grenada, London, and Trinidad across four decades, this is a story about what families sacrifice in the name of survival, what the sea takes that can never be returned, and what endures when love is rooted deep enough.
